Search Continues for Missing Egg Harbor Township Teen

Our community is rallying together as the search continues for a missing Egg Harbor Township teenager who walked away from his home Friday afternoon.

Joel Medina, 17, was last seen around 3 p.m. Friday in the area of Fourth Avenue behind the Shore Mall off West Jersey Avenue. According to Egg Harbor Township police, Joel is autistic and functions as a much younger child would, making his safe return even more urgent.

The intensive search effort has mobilized multiple law enforcement agencies working around the clock. Teams are utilizing advanced technology including drones, trained search-and-rescue units, and FLIR (forward-looking infrared) equipment to scan the wooded areas near his home. Police have maintained a heavy presence throughout the night, particularly focusing on the woods behind Shore Mall.

Joel is described as 5-foot-6 and approximately 156 pounds with dark eyes, black hair, and a medium skin tone. His mother reports he was last seen wearing a plain black T-shirt, black shorts, and red, black and white Jordan sneakers.

Authorities are asking for the community's help in bringing Joel home safely. Hunters who have trail cameras set up in the woods are being asked to review their footage for any possible sightings. Residents throughout the area are encouraged to check their home security cameras as well.

Those who wish to assist in the search are asked to remain in their vehicles while checking the general area and surrounding businesses. This helps coordinate efforts while ensuring the safety of both volunteers and the missing teen.

Anyone with information about Joel's whereabouts is urged to contact Egg Harbor Township police immediately at 609-927-5200. Every piece of information, no matter how small it may seem, could be crucial in bringing Joel home to his family.
