Hammonton's Republican voters have spoken, delivering a decisive victory to three incumbent Town Council members in Tuesday's primary election. Sam Rodio, Renee Rodio, and James Matro successfully defended their seats against challenger Mickey Pullia, setting the stage for what appears to be a clear path to reelection this November.
Sam Rodio led the ticket with 576 votes, followed closely by Renee Rodio with 563 votes. James Matro secured the third nomination spot with 547 votes, while Pullia trailed with 327 votes. The three-way race for three council seats demonstrated strong support for the incumbent slate among Republican primary voters.
The general election landscape appears favorable for the Republican nominees. No Democrats filed to run for Town Council in Hammonton, though an independent slate typically emerges in local races. This pattern reflects Hammonton's status as a Republican stronghold—Donald Trump carried the town by nearly 30 points in the most recent presidential election.
The primary results underscore voter confidence in the current council's direction. With three incumbents securing nomination and no major-party opposition on the horizon, continuity appears to be the preference of Hammonton voters as we head into the fall campaign season.
The general election will take place in November, when voters will have the final say on who represents them on Town Council for the next term.
