A 38-year-old man faces multiple felony charges after his arrest Sunday at Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, where he allegedly monitored security preparations while carrying ammunition and possessing a firearm in his vehicle.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department identified the suspect as Jeanine John Taele of Downey. Authorities apprehended him two days before President Donald Trump's scheduled fundraising dinner at the golf course, located just south of Los Angeles.
Deputies discovered Taele photographing and recording video at the facility. A search revealed he carried a 16-round magazine with ammunition in his pocket. Officers subsequently located a loaded pistol inside his vehicle.
Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Taele's Downey residence on Monday, uncovering an extensive cache of weapons and tactical equipment. The search yielded numerous firearms, magazines, ammunition, body armor, and notebooks containing what authorities described as concerning statements.
Prosecutors filed multiple felony charges against Taele, including second-degree robbery, receiving a large-capacity magazine, and possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun. He also faces a misdemeanor charge for carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle.
Taele entered a not guilty plea to all charges during his Monday court appearance. A judge set bail at $250,000 and imposed conditions prohibiting him from approaching the golf course or possessing weapons. Information about legal representation was not immediately available, and family members could not be reached for comment.
The sheriff's department revealed that Taele was already under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department for robbery when deputies made contact with him Sunday. Despite the arrest, authorities emphasized there is no credible threat to our communities, according to the sheriff's department.
The incident occurred as Trump prepared to attend a Republican National Committee fundraising dinner at the coastal golf course. The timing of the arrest, coming just days before the presidential visit, heightened security concerns at the venue.
This arrest follows a 2025 jury conviction of another individual who attempted to assassinate Trump at his Florida country club, underscoring ongoing security challenges surrounding the president.
