Our Ocean County community was shaken this week as authorities arrested a local man on serious charges involving the sexual exploitation of a child.

James Hadley, 66, of Barnegat, was taken into custody on Friday after allegedly traveling to Pleasantville with the intent to meet a minor for sexual purposes. According to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, detectives intercepted Hadley before he could make contact with the child.

The arrest followed a coordinated effort between the Pleasantville Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office's Special Victims Unit, demonstrating the collaborative approach our law enforcement agencies take to protect vulnerable members of our community.

Multiple Charges Filed

Hadley faces four separate charges stemming from at least three incidents that occurred in March. Prosecutors have charged him with second-degree sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16, second-degree luring a minor to commit a sexual act, third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.

Investigators revealed disturbing details about the case, alleging that Hadley had previously met with the minor on at least two other occasions. During these encounters, prosecutors say he paid the child to perform sexual acts.

Investigation Continues

The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to ensure justice for the victim and determine if there may be additional incidents or victims. This ongoing effort reflects our community's commitment to holding those who harm children fully accountable.

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office at 609-909-7800. Those who wish to remain anonymous can submit tips through the Prosecutor's Office website at ACPO.Tips.

Cases like this serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of community vigilance and open communication with our children about personal safety. Our law enforcement agencies continue working tirelessly to protect the most vulnerable among us, and we all play a role in keeping our neighborhoods safe.
