Our community's law enforcement agencies have successfully prosecuted three serious criminal cases in recent weeks, with defendants from across South Jersey now facing significant prison time.
Somers Point Man Sentenced for Child Endangerment
On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Tyrique Beckett, 31, of Somers Point received a three-year state prison sentence from New Jersey Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor. The case stemmed from a collaborative investigation between the Somers Point Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Authorities discovered that Beckett had engaged in sexual conduct with a juvenile victim and recorded the illegal activity on his cell phone without the victim's knowledge. He pleaded guilty to third-degree endangering the welfare of a child on October 20, 2025.
Beyond his prison term, Beckett will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law and will remain under parole supervision for life. Atlantic County Assistant Prosecutor Brooke Melissa Hoffner represented the state in this case.
Vineland Resident Pleads Guilty in Atlantic City Shooting
Ricardo Ferrera, 32, of Vineland entered a guilty plea on Monday, March 9, 2026, to charges of second-degree aggravated assault and fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm. The case represents another successful partnership between the Atlantic City Police Department and county prosecutors.
In February 2022, Atlantic City police responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating seven gunshots had been fired. Two individuals sustained gunshot injuries during the incident. Investigators determined that Ferrera fired the shots before fleeing the scene. Officers later apprehended him, and prosecutors successfully sought pretrial detention.
Ferrera will receive a five-year state prison sentence with 85 percent parole ineligibility, running concurrent with an 18-month sentence with 18-month parole ineligibility. New Jersey Superior Court Judge Jorge F. Coombs is scheduled to formally sentence Ferrera on April 20, 2026. Atlantic County Assistant Prosecutor Erin Rush handled the case for the state.

On November 11, 2024, state troopers responded to a motor vehicle accident at Mays Landing and Harley Avenue in Hamilton Township. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Dixon, who admitted he knew the vehicle he had been driving was stolen.
Under the terms of his plea agreement, Dixon is expected to receive a three-year state prison sentence. New Jersey Superior Court Judge Dorothy Garrabrant will formally sentence him on April 17, 2026. Atlantic County Assistant Prosecutor Renee Marshina prosecuted the matter on behalf of the state.
These convictions demonstrate the ongoing commitment of our local law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to hold offenders accountable and protect community safety across Atlantic County.
