Social Media Star Patriotic Kenny Dies at 84

Kenny Jary, the beloved social media personality known to millions as Patriotic Kenny, has died at age 84 following a battle with stage 4 lung cancer. The U.S. Navy veteran passed away on Monday, May 18, surrounded by family and friends, according to a statement posted to his Instagram account.

"The tears may never stop flowing," the statement read. "It is with the most indescribable sadness we share that Patriotic Kenny has passed. He experienced the most profound love and was Earth's bright light."

The announcement continued with details about his final moments and his lasting legacy: "He passed surrounded by love and he was in peace. Any memorial contributions should go to his amazing nonprofit, the @patriotickennyfoundation which will live on in his memory. We will share more as time goes on."

Jary rose to internet fame through collaborative videos with his neighbor, Amanda Kline, building an audience of more than 3 million followers on TikTok and nearly 1 million on Instagram. His content, characterized by patriotic themes and uplifting messages, resonated particularly with veterans and those seeking inspiration during difficult times.

In March, the veteran publicly disclosed his cancer diagnosis following an unexpected hospitalization. In a video message to his followers, he addressed the news with characteristic resilience: "I'm home from the hospital and I feel a lot better — not bad at all. But also, I would like to tell you that I've got stage 4 lung cancer. So that's the way it goes. I mean, we can't live forever. But I love you all, fans."

Following the diagnosis, Jary launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with medical expenses. The fundraiser demonstrated the depth of his community support, raising more than $330,000. In response to the overwhelming generosity, he expressed gratitude while maintaining his focus on helping others, particularly fellow veterans.

"I don't know what to say," Jary said of the fundraiser's success. "That is just unbelievable, and I mean it. You know, if I can make some more kids and people happy and veterans — you know, mainly veterans — I'd be so much happier. … Thank you."

In the wake of his death, Kline addressed grieving fans through social media, acknowledging the profound impact her neighbor had on countless lives. "I know your heart is breaking over the news of Kenny's passing," she wrote on Monday. "I carry the weight of your grief on top of my own. I am so sorry for your loss. Kenny's videos comforted so many of you in really, really dark times of your lives. You've been vulnerable and have opened up to us about those moments."

Kline encouraged supporters to revisit the videos that brought them comfort, offering words she said reflected Jary's spirit: "Go back and watch a few videos. They will never be taken down. Then, take a breath. Kenny would say, 'We can't be little babies! We gotta settle down now and struggle on.'"

Beyond his social media presence, Jary's philanthropic work centered on the Patriotic Kenny Foundation, an organization he established with Kline's assistance. The foundation provides mobility scooters to military veterans, addressing isolation and mobility challenges faced by those who served.

Kline pledged to continue this mission in her neighbor's memory. "Two weeks before Kenny passed, he told our board [of] his strong desire and wish for his legacy to continue ending isolation in veterans through mobility scooters," she wrote on Monday. "One of the last things I told him before he passed is that I'll do everything I can to honor his wish. I meant it."

The foundation has been designated as the preferred recipient for memorial contributions, ensuring that Jary's commitment to supporting veterans will extend beyond his lifetime. His family and collaborators have indicated that additional information regarding memorial arrangements will be shared in the coming days.
