A major transformation is underway at one of Atlantic City's historic landmarks, and while the developer is keeping details close to the vest, the project promises to bring new family entertainment options to our Boardwalk.
Developer Bart Blatstein, owner of the Showboat Resort Atlantic City, has begun demolishing part of Garden Pier while simultaneously extending the Boardwalk in preparation for what he's calling an "entertainment project" designed to give families something to do in Atlantic City.
While Blatstein isn't ready to reveal specifics about the plan, he made it clear that timing is everything. The project appears positioned to capitalize on the recent closure of the former Wonderland amusement park on the Ocean City Boardwalk—a loss that left many families searching for alternative entertainment destinations along the Jersey Shore.
"While Ocean City is mourning the loss of Wonderland, we at Showboat are expanding the family-friendly market," Blatstein said, hinting at the strategic opportunity his project represents for Atlantic City.
The demolition and construction work signals a significant investment in Atlantic City's appeal to families—a demographic the resort town has actively courted in recent years as it works to diversify beyond casino gaming. Garden Pier, with its prime Boardwalk location, offers an ideal canvas for the kind of attraction that could draw day-trippers and overnight visitors alike.
For our community, this development represents more than just another entertainment venue. It's a statement about Atlantic City's evolution and our commitment to becoming a true family destination. The extension of the Boardwalk itself enhances our iconic waterfront, while the mystery surrounding Blatstein's plans has generated considerable buzz among residents and business owners eager to see what's next.
As construction continues at Garden Pier, the anticipation builds. Whatever Blatstein has planned, it's clear he sees an opportunity to fill a gap in the regional entertainment market—and to position Atlantic City as the go-to destination for families along the southern New Jersey coast.
