EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. — One person was killed and another remains in critical condition following a shooting inside a rehabilitation facility Monday morning in Egg Harbor Township, authorities said.
The gunfire broke out at the Excelcare Rehabilitation Facility on Delilah Road during the early morning hours, prompting a large police response and lockdown of the building.
Officials confirmed that two people were shot in the incident. One victim was pronounced dead, while the second was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Investigators have not yet released the identities of those involved, pending notification of family members.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the investigation alongside local police. Authorities said early on that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and not a threat to the public.
Preliminary information indicates the individuals involved may have known each other, though officials have not publicly detailed the nature of that relationship. Law enforcement sources have also not confirmed whether the suspect is in custody.
Police secured the facility shortly after the shooting and conducted a sweep of the building. No additional injuries were reported among residents or staff.
The incident has drawn heightened concern due to the location — a care facility serving vulnerable patients — though officials emphasized that the situation was quickly contained.
Authorities have not yet released details about a possible motive, the weapon used, or the sequence of events leading up to the shooting. The investigation remains active.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
