Shirilla Parents Listed Fatal Crash Vehicle in Bankruptcy

The vehicle involved in a fatal crash that resulted in a life sentence for Mackenzie Shirilla was documented as an asset in her parents' bankruptcy proceedings just weeks before the deadly collision, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.

Natalie and Steve Shirilla filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in May 2022, listing $398,000 in assets and $173,000 in liabilities. Among their declared assets was a 2018 Toyota Camry with approximately 32,000 miles, valued at $18,000 in the bankruptcy filing.

That same vehicle was the one Mackenzie Shirilla was driving on July 31, 2022, when she crashed into a wall, killing Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan. Prosecutors successfully argued that Shirilla intentionally drove the car into the wall, leading to her conviction for murder and a life sentence.

The bankruptcy documents reveal that while the Toyota Camry could have been sold to a third party as part of the bankruptcy process to satisfy creditors, it appears Natalie and Steven repurchased the vehicle as part of the bankruptcy proceedings.

The Shirilla parents have consistently maintained their daughter's innocence despite the conviction. The case centered on the prosecution's assertion that the crash was an intentional act rather than an accident, a claim that ultimately persuaded the judge to impose the life sentence for the deaths of the two young men.

The revelation of the vehicle's inclusion in the bankruptcy filing adds another layer of documentation to a case that has already generated extensive legal proceedings. The financial records provide a timeline showing the vehicle's ownership status in the months leading up to the fatal incident.
