Reality television personality Nikki Exotika is recovering in a hospital following emergency quadruple bypass surgery, her family announced this week. The procedure, which lasted seven hours and involved a team of 25 medical staff members, took place after the 50-year-old performer suffered a mild heart attack.
Nikki's mother, Myrna, provided an update from her daughter's bedside in a Tuesday, May 19, Instagram video, revealing the severity of the medical emergency. "She underwent a serious operation yesterday," Myrna explained. "It was seven hours and it was supposed to be a triple bypass and it ended up being a quadruple bypass."
The surgery proved more extensive than initially anticipated, with doctors discovering during the procedure that a fourth bypass was necessary. Following the operation, Nikki, whose legal name is Nicole Sanders, was placed on a breathing machine as part of her post-operative care. Myrna described the family's anxiety during the lengthy procedure, stating that she and Nikki's loved ones were "very worried" throughout.
The medical crisis developed after weeks of concerning symptoms that had initially been dismissed. According to a GoFundMe campaign established by Myrna, Nikki had been experiencing chest pain, heartburn, shortness of breath, and difficulty while walking and exercising. Despite seeking medical attention and undergoing multiple diagnostic tests including an EKG, echocardiogram, and stress test, she was allegedly told her heart was healthy and given a clean bill of health.
The symptoms persisted as Nikki prepared for the upcoming summer performance season. During one show, she nearly collapsed on stage, prompting her to schedule another appointment with her cardiologist. However, before she could reach the doctor's office, Nikki suffered a mild heart attack and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
Medical imaging revealed the true extent of the problem. "Doctors performed an angiogram and discovered that her arteries were severely calcified and blocked," the fundraiser page states. "Unfortunately, they were unable to perform an angioplasty or place stents because the blockages were too extensive." The severity of the arterial blockages necessitated the emergency bypass surgery.
Myrna traveled from her home in Florida to be present for what she described as her daughter's "life-changing surgery" and to support her through the recovery process. In the emotional Instagram video, Myrna fought back tears while explaining the financial challenges ahead. "She's gonna be out for a while and she needs help," she said.
The GoFundMe campaign established to assist Nikki during her recovery is not intended for medical bills, as the reality star has good health insurance. Instead, the fundraiser aims to cover rent, monthly bills, living expenses, and recovery needs while Nikki is unable to work. The campaign has set a goal of $22,000 and has raised more than $12,000 at the time of publication.
"Nicole has received so much love and support from friends, fans, and followers all over the world, and our family is incredibly grateful," Myrna wrote in the fundraiser description. "Any contribution — big or small—would mean the world to us during this difficult time."
Nikki gained recognition through her appearance on 90 Day Fiancé season 10, where she traveled to Moldova to meet now-ex Justin Shutencov. During the show, she openly discussed her experience as a trans woman. The relationship ended after filming when Justin terminated their relationship via text message.
The extended recovery period following quadruple bypass surgery typically requires several months away from normal activities, presenting significant financial challenges for self-employed performers and entertainers who rely on consistent work to maintain their income.
