Police Bodycam Reveals Disturbing Details of Domestic Dispute

Police body camera footage obtained from the Herriman City Police Department has shed new light on a violent domestic dispute that occurred in February 2023, revealing allegations that a metal barstool thrown during the altercation struck a child who was present in the home.

The footage, released on March 23, 2026, captures phone conversations between law enforcement officers and Dakota Mortensen as they investigated the incident involving Taylor Frankie Paul. According to Mortensen's account to police, Paul threw a metal barstool at him during the confrontation in her living room. He stated that he deflected the object, which then ricocheted and struck her child, who was sitting on the couch only feet away from the altercation. The child began crying following the impact, Mortensen told investigators.

The police investigation extended beyond the physical altercation itself. In a separate phone call documented in the bodycam footage, officers questioned Mortensen about claims that Paul had urinated on herself. Mortensen provided context for the incident, stating that it occurred prior to the fight while they were driving home together.

According to Mortensen's statement to police, Paul was intoxicated during the drive and requested multiple times that he pull over so she could relieve herself. He stated that she was unable to wait the additional time required to reach a gas station restroom and instead opened the truck door to urinate on the side of the road. Mortensen also reported to officers that Paul threw water on him while they were in the vehicle.

During the investigation, police questioned Mortensen about the phenomenon of domestic violence victims sometimes urinating on themselves during traumatic incidents. However, Mortensen maintained that the urination incident was related to intoxication rather than trauma or fear.

The February 2023 incident resulted in legal consequences for Paul. The newly released footage represents the latest documentation to emerge from the investigation, following initial video evidence that was made public the previous week. The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence incidents that occur in the presence of children and the potential for unintended harm to minors during adult altercations.

The Herriman City Police Department conducted a thorough investigation into the matter, documenting witness statements and gathering evidence through multiple interviews with involved parties. The release of body camera footage demonstrates increasing transparency in law enforcement practices and provides the public with insight into how domestic violence cases are investigated and documented by authorities.
