A Philadelphia man has pleaded guilty to a brutal shooting that claimed one life and forever changed another, bringing some measure of closure to a case that shocked our community last summer.
Gregg Page, 35, admitted in court to first-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted manslaughter, and certain persons not to possess firearms in connection with the August 2024 Atlantic City shooting, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. The charges stem from a violent incident that left two women shot in the head near the jetty at Maine Avenue.
In the early morning hours of August 1, 2024, a witness discovered the injured women and immediately alerted police. What officers found at the scene was devastating: Carley Elbert, 32, of Sewell, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later confirmed she died from a gunshot wound to the head, with the manner of death ruled a homicide.
The second victim, Kamille Stewart, 31, of Pleasantville, survived the attack but sustained serious head injuries from the gunshot wound. Authorities report that Stewart continues to experience lasting impacts from her injuries to this day—a sobering reminder that the effects of violence extend far beyond the immediate tragedy.
During his guilty plea, Page admitted to shooting both women. The swift police response and investigative work led detectives to Philadelphia on the same day as the shooting, where they located Page in possession of a handgun and other incriminating evidence. The quick action by law enforcement prevented any further harm and ensured Page would face justice.
Two additional individuals who were not involved in the shooting itself but helped Page flee the scene were charged with hindering an investigation, demonstrating that authorities pursued accountability at every level of this case.
Page now faces 50 years in prison when he appears for sentencing on Monday, June 16, 2026. While no sentence can undo the harm caused or bring back Carley Elbert, the guilty plea represents a step toward justice for the victims and their families.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence on our communities. As we await the final sentencing, our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Carley Elbert, and with Kamille Stewart as she continues her recovery and healing journey.
