When families are stretching every dollar to put food on the table, basic necessities like toothpaste, soap, and laundry detergent often become luxuries they simply can't afford. That's the reality facing many of our neighbors right here in South Jersey—and it's why the Community FoodBank of New Jersey needs our help right now.
The FoodBank, along with its dedicated Women Fighting Hunger volunteer group, has launched a special 'Beyond Food' Drive running through the end of March. This initiative recognizes that fighting hunger means addressing more than just empty stomachs—it means ensuring our neighbors can maintain their dignity and health with access to basic hygiene and household products.
What Our Community Needs Most
The Community Assistance Pantry at the FoodBank's Egg Harbor Township warehouse is seeking donations of everyday items that many of us take for granted. These products are consistently in high demand but remain difficult for families facing financial hardship to purchase.
Here's what you can contribute to make a real difference:
Personal hygiene products including soap, shampoo, lotion, and deodorant
Dental care items like toothpaste and toothbrushes
Paper products such as toilet paper and paper towels
Laundry detergent and household cleaning supplies
All donated items must be new and in their original packaging to ensure safety and quality for recipients.
Multiple Ways to Give Back
The FoodBank has made it easy for community members to participate, whether you prefer to drop off items in person or shop from the comfort of your home.
For those who'd like to deliver donations directly, items can be dropped off at the FoodBank's front security desk during regular business hours at their location on 6735 Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township. There's also a convenient Amazon WishList option that allows supporters to purchase needed items online and have them shipped directly to the warehouse—perfect for busy schedules or those who prefer contactless giving.
Can't shop but want to help? Financial contributions are equally valuable and can be made online, allowing the FoodBank to purchase exactly what's needed most at any given time. Every dollar makes a measurable impact in our community.
Why This Matters to Our Neighbors
Food insecurity doesn't exist in isolation. Families who struggle to afford groceries face impossible choices: buy food or buy soap? Feed the kids or purchase toilet paper? These aren't decisions anyone should have to make, yet they're daily realities for thousands of South Jersey residents.
By contributing to the 'Beyond Food' Drive, we're helping ensure that our neighbors can maintain their health, hygiene, and dignity while working toward stability. It's a reminder that supporting our community means looking at the whole picture—and recognizing that sometimes the smallest necessities make the biggest difference.
Get Involved Today
With the drive running through the end of March, there's still time to make an impact. Whether you're an individual looking to help, a family wanting to teach children about giving back, or a local organization interested in organizing a collection drive, the Community FoodBank welcomes your support.
