Our community is rallying around two Atlantic City police officers after a violent confrontation during a warrant execution left one in critical condition and another wounded. The incident, which occurred Tuesday on North Florida Avenue just blocks from Boardwalk Hall, also resulted in the death of an adult male civilian.
According to authorities, both officers were struck by gunfire while executing a warrant. The civilian involved in the shooting suffered fatal injuries, though officials have not yet released details about the circumstances that led to the exchange of gunfire.
One of the wounded officers has been identified as Sgt. Christian Ivanov. The New Jersey PBA has organized a GoFundMe campaign to support his recovery, and the community response has been overwhelming—more than $70,000 has been raised so far. The identity of the second injured officer has not been released at this time.
Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. expressed his support for the officers and their families in a statement following the shooting. "My thoughts and prayers are with the two Atlantic City police officers who were wounded this afternoon, as well as their families, and the entire Atlantic City Police Department during this difficult time," he said. "We are hopeful for their full and speedy recovery."
The shooting occurred in a busy area near one of Atlantic City's most recognizable landmarks, underscoring the dangers law enforcement officers face even in familiar neighborhoods. The proximity to Boardwalk Hall means many residents and visitors may have been in the area when the incident unfolded.
As our community awaits more information about the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, the focus remains on supporting Sgt. Ivanov, his fellow officer, and their families during this difficult time. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased civilian or additional details about the warrant being served.
