NBC Terminates Guard After Studio Breach Reaches Host

NBC has terminated a security guard following a significant security failure at the 'TODAY' show that allowed an intruder to reach host Craig Melvin inside the studio, according to sources with direct knowledge of the situation.

The guard was fired Thursday after allegedly permitting the suspect to enter Studio 1A at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, sources told TMZ. The breach resulted in a confrontation between the intruder and Melvin during what should have been a secure production environment.

According to Page Six, security footage captured two guards stationed at the entrance when the breach occurred. One guard briefly left their post while the other failed to observe the man entering the restricted area. A representative for the 'TODAY' show declined to comment on the termination.

The suspect, identified as Andrew Truelove, entered the building through the 'TODAY' plaza after asking staff members where he could locate Al Roker. Law enforcement sources indicated Truelove never found Roker and instead allegedly lunged at Melvin while shouting a racial slur at the host.

Truelove was quickly detained until the New York Police Department arrived on scene. Despite the alarming nature of the encounter, no injuries were reported. Both Melvin and Roker returned to broadcasting approximately 15 minutes after the incident.

A substantial police presence was observed outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza as investigators examined how the suspect managed to penetrate multiple security layers and reach the studio floor. The incident has raised serious questions about security protocols at the high-profile broadcast location.

Truelove faces multiple charges including hate crime burglary, hate crime menacing, hate crime criminal trespass, and harassment. The hate crime designations reflect the racial nature of the verbal assault against Melvin.

The security failure represents a significant breach at one of television's most prominent morning programs, which broadcasts live from the ground floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza in midtown Manhattan. The termination of the security guard signals NBC's response to what could have been a far more dangerous situation.
