Morey's Pier Giant Wheel Gets Major Upgrade

Our beloved Wildwood boardwalk is getting even better this summer. Morey's Pier, the iconic amusement destination that's been thrilling generations of Jersey families and Philadelphia visitors since the 1970s, is rolling out some exciting upgrades just in time for the busy season.

The star of the show is the Giant Wheel, the famous Ferris wheel that's been a boardwalk landmark since it first opened in 1985. Standing at an impressive 156 feet tall — making it one of the tallest on the East Coast — the wheel has undergone a complete refurbishment that goes far beyond basic maintenance.

The upgraded attraction now features stunning new lighting and visual displays alongside structural improvements, transforming the nighttime skyline along the shore. The revamped Giant Wheel is set to make its grand debut this weekend, giving Memorial Day weekend visitors a first look at the spectacular new experience.

But that's not all happening at Morey's Pier this season. The Great White roller coaster is also making its return after receiving significant track improvements designed to deliver a smoother, more enjoyable ride. The coaster, which first opened in June 1996, features a thrilling 100-foot drop and reaches speeds of up to 50 mph — plenty of excitement for coaster enthusiasts looking for that perfect blend of adrenaline and classic boardwalk charm.

For those who prefer to keep their feet closer to the ground, there's a brand-new spot to check out. Jack's Bar opened last Friday in the former lower level of Joe's Fish Co., bringing a fresh dining and drinking option to the pier. The new establishment reportedly captures the authentic carnival and boardwalk atmosphere while serving up quality food and adult beverages — the perfect place to unwind after a day of rides and games.

Whether you're from Mahwah in the north or Cape May in the south, Morey's Pier has likely been part of your Jersey Shore memories at some point. The destination has remained a constant through decades of change, yet continues to evolve and improve rather than simply coasting on its storied reputation.

With summer officially here and these new attractions ready to welcome visitors, there's never been a better time to plan a trip down the shore. The combination of nostalgic favorites and fresh experiences makes Morey's Pier a destination that appeals to multiple generations — from grandparents who rode these same rides decades ago to kids experiencing the magic of the boardwalk for the first time.
