Minnesota NHL Reporter and Three Children Perish in House Fire

A devastating house fire in White Bear Lake claimed the lives of a respected sports journalist and her three young children early Saturday morning, leaving the Minnesota hockey community in mourning.

Jessi Pierce, 37, died alongside her sons Hudson and Cayden, daughter Avery, and the family dog when fire engulfed their residence on Saturday, March 21. The White Bear Lake Fire Department responded to the emergency call at approximately 5:25 a.m. local time.

According to Fire Chief Greg Peterson, neighbors who placed the emergency call reported flames breaking through the roof and indicated occupants were likely inside. Firefighters arrived to find the structure fully involved in flames and immediately initiated suppression efforts. Crews subsequently located an adult, three children, and a dog inside the residence. All were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The tragedy struck just one day after Pierce shared photographs on social media showing her three children enjoying ice cream outdoors. The images, posted on Friday, March 20, captured what would become final moments of family joy.

Pierce had established herself as a prominent voice in hockey journalism over the past decade, serving as a reporter for NHL.com for ten seasons while also contributing coverage of the Minnesota Wild. She co-hosted the Bardown Beauties podcast alongside Kirsten Krull, a freelance sports broadcaster.

The National Hockey League released a statement Sunday acknowledging the loss. The organization described Pierce as a valued member of the NHL.com team who loved the sport and would be greatly missed. The statement extended prayers and condolences to the Pierce family, including husband Mike Pierce, who survived the fire.

Krull, 29, paid tribute to her colleague and friend through social media, describing Pierce as a sister figure who possessed remarkable confidence and an ability to connect with anyone. She praised Pierce's work ethic, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to her children and family.

The White Bear Lake Fire Department requested the community come together to support one another during this difficult period. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances of the incident.

The loss has reverberated throughout Minnesota's tight-knit hockey community, where Pierce was known not only for her professional accomplishments but also for her dedication to family and her passion for the sport she covered.
