Megan Thee Stallion Demands $75K Bond from Blogger

Megan Thee Stallion is demanding that a blogger post a substantial bond before being allowed to appeal a defamation judgment, rejecting claims of financial hardship as precisely the reason such security is necessary.

The legal dispute centers on Milagro Gramz, who recently filed court documents requesting permission to delay paying a $75,000 judgment awarded to Megan Thee Stallion while she pursues an appeal. In her filing, Gramz claimed she lacks the financial resources to pay the judgment amount.

Megan Thee Stallion's legal team has now responded with a counter-motion, asking the judge to deny the delay request and instead require Gramz to post a bond in the full amount of the judgment. According to the rapper's attorneys, the blogger's assertions of financial inability actually strengthen the case for requiring the bond, not weaken it.

The bond mechanism serves as a financial guarantee that ensures payment to the prevailing party if an appeals court upholds the original decision. Should Gramz ultimately succeed in her appeal and reverse the judgment, she would be entitled to recover the bond money. However, if the appellate court affirms the defamation ruling, the bond ensures Megan Thee Stallion can collect the awarded damages regardless of the blogger's financial circumstances at that time.

Megan Thee Stallion's lawyers argue that Gramz's professed lack of funds to post the bond actually underscores why the court should mandate it. The bond exists specifically to protect judgment creditors from situations where defendants might lack resources to pay if they lose on appeal. Without such security, the legal team contends, there would be no assurance that Megan Thee Stallion could collect the judgment even if vindicated by the appellate court.

Additionally, the rapper's attorneys assert that Gramz has failed to demonstrate a substantial likelihood of prevailing on appeal. This failure, they argue, provides another compelling reason to require the full bond amount, plus interest and additional costs associated with the judgment.

The underlying case stems from a defamation lawsuit in which a federal jury largely sided with Megan Thee Stallion against Milagro Gramz. The jury awarded the rapper $75,000 in damages related to social media posts concerning Tory Lanez and the events following the shooting case involving the rapper.

The court has not yet ruled on either the request to delay payment or the demand for a bond. The decision will determine whether Gramz can proceed with her appeal without immediately satisfying the judgment or whether she must first secure the full amount through a court-approved bond.
