Magic City Addresses Controversy Over Hawks Tribute Night, Emphasizes Family-Friendly Event

As controversy continues to swirl around the Atlanta Hawks' planned Magic City tribute night, representatives from the renowned establishment have issued a direct response to critics, emphasizing that the March 16 event will be appropriate for all attendees and will showcase the venue's broader cultural impact on the city.

Manager JuJu Barney and dancer Yaya appeared on TMZ Live Wednesday to clarify what fans can expect from the upcoming collaboration, which has drawn criticism from some NBA players and social media commentators since its announcement.

Barney delivered an unequivocal statement regarding the nature of the tribute night. "There will be no nudity whatsoever, at all," Barney stated. "There will be no signs of nudity, there will be no nudity at all. It is strictly just wings and music and people having a good time."

Beyond Adult Entertainment: A Cultural Institution

While acknowledging the establishment's primary business model, Barney emphasized that Magic City has evolved into something larger than its nightclub origins. The venue has become a cultural touchstone in Atlanta, attracting diverse clientele from various professional backgrounds.

"It is more of an iconic place where anybody who is a CEO, NBA player, politician, actress, or actor—they all come and they are all normal when they come here," Barney explained. "Everybody is the same when they come to Magic City. And it is more than strip, more about the culture, the hip hop, the music, the food, the fun vibes."

The establishment has indeed achieved recognition beyond Atlanta's nightlife scene, becoming referenced in numerous hip-hop songs and serving as a gathering place for entertainment industry figures. Its wings have garnered particular acclaim, becoming a signature offering that draws patrons independent of its adult entertainment services.

Responding to Criticism

The tribute night has faced opposition from several voices, including San Antonio Spurs center Luke Kornet, who characterized the promotion as disrespectful to women. Such criticism has sparked broader conversations about the appropriateness of professional sports franchises partnering with adult entertainment venues.

Yaya, a dancer at the establishment, offered her perspective on these concerns during the interview. While acknowledging that Kornet's intentions may be well-meaning, she defended the opportunities the venue has provided.

"They have taken me across the globe," Yaya stated. "They helped support me throughout my entire mid-20s so far, and one thing that I have to say is I do not feel used, I do not feel degraded. I feel like this collaboration, honestly, is more celebratory energy than anything that he is trying to make it seem like. So I honestly do not see how this could be a bad thing for the women, and I think that this type of advertisement is what is going to even help them get out of the club."

Hawks Stand Firm on Partnership

Despite the public backlash, the Atlanta Hawks organization has shown no indication of reconsidering the promotional event. According to statements released Tuesday, team officials have not engaged in any discussions regarding canceling the tribute night.

The franchise appears committed to celebrating an establishment that has become intertwined with Atlanta's cultural identity, particularly within the hip-hop community that has shaped the city's national reputation. The March 16 event represents an attempt to acknowledge this cultural significance while maintaining appropriate standards for a family sporting event.

As the date approaches, the controversy surrounding Magic City tribute night highlights ongoing tensions between professional sports marketing, cultural celebration, and evolving social standards. Whether the event successfully balances these competing interests will likely be determined by the execution on game night and the public's ultimate reception.
