Golden Kids World, described as a "playtime paradise" for children, is setting up shop in the former Tilton Fitness building just off Tilton Road near Hingston. The facility has sat vacant since the summer of 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the beloved local gym chain to permanently close its doors.
From Fitness Hub to Family Fun
For those who remember, Tilton Fitness was a South Jersey institution. At its peak, the local chain boasted roughly 20,000 members across multiple locations, including facilities on Harding Highway in Mays Landing, Jimmie Leeds Road in Galloway, and several spots in Ocean County. The Egg Harbor Township location served as the flagship, with parking lots that regularly overflowed during peak hours.
The mandatory business closures in 2020 proved insurmountable for the fitness chain. On July 1, 2020, Tilton Fitness shut down for good, joining countless other gyms nationwide that couldn't weather the pandemic's financial storm. The company acknowledged the difficulty of the decision at the time, noting that the mandatory closures had hit fitness centers particularly hard.
New Chapter Begins
Recent activity at the site signals that change is finally coming. Construction materials, a large dumpster near the entrance, and visible work inside the building indicate that Golden Kids World is actively preparing to open. The new venue plans to offer a range of services tailored to families, including open play sessions, birthday party packages, and programming for school field trips.
