Comedian and actor Kevin Hart has filed court documents requesting a judge order his former assistant to pay $50,000 in damages for allegedly breaching a confidentiality agreement, according to legal filings obtained by TMZ.
The entertainment star alleges that Miesha Shakes, who worked for him from 2017 to 2020, violated a non-disclosure agreement she signed during her employment by participating in an interview with blogger Tasha K. Hart contends that Shakes disclosed information about his personal life during the interview, which he claims caused harm to both his reputation and career.
The legal dispute took a dramatic turn when Hart received a phone call from one of Tasha K's associates prior to the interview's release. According to court documents, the associate demanded $250,000 in exchange for preventing the interview from airing. Hart declined the offer and subsequently contacted law enforcement to report the alleged extortion attempt.
Despite Hart's efforts, which included sending a cease-and-desist letter to Tasha K, the interview was ultimately published on the blogger's platforms. The comedian then pursued legal action against his former assistant, citing both defamation and breach of contract.
In a declaration filed with the court, Hart emphasized the importance of his public image to his professional endeavors. "Working in the entertainment industry, my livelihood depends in part on my reputation and the public's perception of me, particularly in light of the fact that I am involved in a number of family-oriented projects," Hart stated in the court filing.
The entertainer further explained that his various endorsement deals with national brands are contingent upon public perception of his reputation, making the alleged breach particularly damaging to his business interests.
Shakes has contested the validity of the non-disclosure agreement, arguing that Hart failed to comply with certain terms of the deal. However, the comedian disputes this claim in his court filings.
The $50,000 figure Hart is seeking represents the penalty stipulated in the original agreement for breaching the non-disclosure terms.
