After a decade and a half at the helm of one of Atlantic City's premier casino properties, Tom Pohlman is preparing to step down from his role as executive vice president and general manager of Golden Nugget Atlantic City. His departure, effective Thursday, May 1, marks the end of an era for the casino and our community.
The announcement has prompted an outpouring of recognition from industry leaders who have worked alongside Pohlman throughout his tenure. George Goldhoff, president of the Casino Association of New Jersey and of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, released a statement Thursday night celebrating Pohlman's contributions to the resort city.
"Tom Pohlman represents the very best of Atlantic City and the casino industry, and he will be missed as executive vice president and general manager of Golden Nugget Atlantic City," Goldhoff said. "Tom has been a steady leader and trusted partner throughout the years, having a lasting impact on the property, workforce, and broader Atlantic City community."
Pohlman's 15-year leadership at Golden Nugget Atlantic City has spanned a transformative period for our city's gaming industry. During his tenure, Atlantic City has weathered economic challenges, welcomed new casino openings, and adapted to an evolving entertainment landscape. Throughout these changes, Pohlman has been recognized as a stabilizing force—not just for his own property, but as a collaborative partner across the industry.
The praise from Goldhoff, who leads a competing property, underscores the respect Pohlman has earned among his peers. In an industry where competition is fierce, such recognition speaks to the relationships he's built and the professional standards he's maintained.
As we approach May 1, questions remain about what's next for both Pohlman and Golden Nugget Atlantic City. The casino has not yet announced who will succeed him in the leadership role. For our community's workforce and the thousands of employees who have worked under his management, the transition represents a significant shift in the local gaming landscape.
Pohlman's legacy extends beyond the casino floor. His impact on Atlantic City's broader community—through employment, economic development, and industry partnership—will continue to be felt long after his departure. As our city continues to evolve and reinvent itself, leaders like Pohlman have played crucial roles in maintaining stability and fostering growth during uncertain times.
