After a decade and a half of leadership, our community is saying goodbye to a familiar face in Atlantic City's casino industry. Tom Pohlman, who has served as general manager of Golden Nugget Atlantic City for 15 years, announced Thursday that he will be stepping down from his position effective May 1.
Pohlman holds the distinction of being the longest-tenured casino general manager in Atlantic City—a testament to his steady leadership through an era of significant change in our local gaming industry. In an interview, he explained that the decision came down to timing and personal reflection.
"I love the Golden Nugget, I love the property, I love our customers and the relationships I have built," Pohlman said. "It's just time."
The transition represents not just a changing of the guard, but a continuation of institutional knowledge. Kevin Scull, who has served as assistant general manager of the casino for the entire 15 years Pohlman has been at the helm, will succeed him. This internal promotion ensures continuity for the property and its team members during the leadership transition.
Pohlman took to social media to share his gratitude with the community. "It has been the honor of a lifetime to lead the amazing team at the Golden Nugget the last 15 years, and provide so many memorable experiences for our valuable guests," he wrote on Facebook.
His tenure has spanned a transformative period for Atlantic City's casino landscape, weathering economic challenges, increased regional competition, and the evolution of gaming entertainment. The relationships he's built—with staff, guests, and community partners—reflect the personal touch that has defined his leadership style.
As Scull prepares to take over next week, the Golden Nugget Atlantic City enters a new chapter while maintaining the foundation built over the past 15 years. For our community, it's a moment to recognize the impact of long-term leadership and the importance of institutional continuity in an industry that's central to our local economy.
