Our community members who shop at Aldi need to be aware of an important food safety alert that could affect products sitting in freezers right now.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced this past Sunday that Rosina Food Products, based in West Seneca, New York, is pulling approximately 9,462 pounds of frozen meatballs from circulation after a consumer discovered metal fragments in their package.
Which Products Are Affected?
The recall specifically targets 32-ounce bags of "Bremer Family Size Italian Style Meatballs" that were manufactured on July 30 of last year. Each package contains approximately 64 fully cooked meatballs and displays a "Best By" date of October 30.
To identify whether your product is part of the recall, check the back label for timestamps between 17:08 and 18:20. You should also look for establishment number "EST. 4286B" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These products were distributed exclusively to Aldi supermarket locations across the country.
What Sparked the Recall?
The contamination issue came to light after a vigilant consumer filed a complaint with federal food safety officials reporting the presence of metal pieces in their meatballs. This discovery prompted immediate action from the manufacturer and regulatory authorities.
The good news is that no injuries have been confirmed in connection with this recall. However, health officials are taking the matter seriously, as metal contamination poses a potential choking hazard and could cause injury if consumed.
What Should You Do?
If you have these meatballs in your home, federal food safety experts strongly advise against eating them. Instead, you have two options: dispose of the product immediately or return it to your local Aldi store for a refund.
Anyone who believes they may have been injured after consuming this product should contact their healthcare provider right away.
