Frontier Airlines Plane Strikes, Kills Pedestrian at Denver Airport

A fatal collision occurred at Denver International Airport on Friday night when a Frontier Airlines aircraft struck a pedestrian on the runway, resulting in an emergency evacuation and the death of an individual who had breached airport security.

The incident took place around 11:19 p.m. local time as the Airbus A321, carrying 224 passengers and seven crew members, prepared for departure to Los Angeles. According to Denver International Airport, the pedestrian had jumped the perimeter fence and was struck just two minutes later while crossing the runway.

Frontier Airlines reported that smoke was detected in the cabin following the collision, prompting pilots to abort the takeoff. The airline stated in an official release: "Smoke was reported in the cabin and the pilots aborted takeoff. Passengers were then safely evacuated via slides as a matter of precaution."

ABC News reported that the individual struck was "at least partially consumed" by one of the aircraft's engines, which led to a brief fire. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Denver International Airport confirmed that the deceased individual was not believed to be an airport employee and had not been identified at the time of the airport's statement. Airport officials examined the perimeter fencing following the breach and determined it remained intact, indicating the individual had deliberately jumped over the barrier.

The emergency evacuation resulted in injuries to passengers and crew. The airport reported that 12 people sustained minor injuries during the incident, with five individuals transported to local hospitals for treatment. The specific nature of these injuries was not disclosed in official statements.

Frontier Airlines expressed condolences in its statement, saying the company was "deeply saddened" by the event. Airport authorities worked to accommodate the displaced passengers, with the majority subsequently departing for Los Angeles on a replacement Frontier flight.

The incident represents a rare security breach at one of the nation's busiest airports. Denver International Airport serves as a major hub for domestic and international travel, handling millions of passengers annually. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fence breach and the individual's presence on the active runway are expected to continue.
