Former Assistant Brad Goreski Responds to Rachel Zoe's Comments About 'Triggering' Workplace Experiences

A long-standing professional dispute between celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe and her former assistant Brad Goreski has resurfaced following recent comments made by Zoe about the difficulties of hiring and managing staff in the fashion industry.

In an interview published Thursday, March 5, by Interview Magazine, Zoe, 54, described the experience of working with assistants as 'triggering' after her decades-long career as a stylist and designer. The fashion industry veteran acknowledged that while she has employed exceptional staff members who became like family, she has also experienced what she characterized as 'betrayal and dishonesty.'

Zoe stated that finding the right assistant remains 'the hardest job to fill, always,' highlighting the complex nature of professional relationships in the high-pressure world of celebrity styling.

Goreski Offers Counterpoint

The comments prompted a swift response from Goreski, 48, who worked for Zoe before establishing his own successful styling career. When Interview Magazine shared Zoe's remarks on their Instagram platform, Goreski replied publicly, suggesting that the experience was equally challenging for those who worked under her direction.

In his comment, Goreski referenced multiple former Zoe employees by name—Taylor, Jill, Jordan, Tara, and himself—indicating that the workplace environment presented difficulties for staff members as well. Jordan Johnson Chung, one of the individuals mentioned, responded to Goreski's comment with apparent agreement, writing simply 'accurate.'

Representatives for Zoe have not yet issued a statement regarding Goreski's response.

A Professional Relationship Documented on Television

The professional relationship between Zoe and Goreski, as well as its dissolution, played out publicly during the run of 'The Rachel Zoe Project,' a Bravo reality series that aired from 2008 to 2013. The program provided viewers with an inside look at Zoe's styling business and her management approach alongside her then-husband, Rodger Berman. Zoe and Berman announced their separation in September 2024 after 26 years of marriage.

Goreski served as Zoe's associate and style director before departing her company in 2010. His exit from the organization became a significant storyline on the reality program, with Zoe expressing feelings of professional betrayal during a 2011 episode.

During that episode, Zoe alleged that within a week of his departure, Goreski began pursuing her clients and attending industry events, contradicting statements he had previously made about his career intentions. Goreski has consistently denied allegations that he improperly solicited Zoe's clients.

Years of Professional Distance

In the years following their professional split, both parties have addressed the state of their relationship in various media appearances. In January 2012, Goreski stated that he and Zoe no longer maintained communication, though he expressed willingness to reconcile. He emphasized that he had conducted himself with 'honesty, dignity, and grace' throughout the situation.

During a March 2013 appearance on 'Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,' Goreski reiterated his openness to reestablishing contact with his former employer, stating that his phone remained available should she choose to reach out. He acknowledged satisfaction both in his previous role as her assistant and in his subsequent independent career.

Nearly a decade later, in July 2021, Zoe appeared on the same program and confirmed that she and Goreski maintained no relationship. When discussing the matter, she emphasized the importance of professional conduct in the industry.

Impact on Career Decisions

Zoe has indicated that her experiences with assistants influenced significant career decisions. In a January interview, she revealed that difficulties with staff members contributed to her decision to step away from celebrity styling work. She explained that after experiencing what she termed 'betrayal' from multiple assistants, she found it increasingly difficult to trust staff members with client relationships, ultimately determining that continuing in that capacity was no longer worthwhile.

The ongoing public discourse between Zoe and her former employees highlights the complex dynamics that can exist in high-profile professional relationships, particularly in industries where personal connections and trust are fundamental to business success. As both parties have built successful independent careers in the fashion and entertainment industries, their differing perspectives on their shared professional history continue to generate public interest more than a decade after their working relationship concluded.
