Video footage and federal documents have emerged showing the scope of a November 2022 FBI raid on a Hawaii home connected to an alleged murder-for-hire conspiracy targeting Jack Avery. The operation, which resulted in the seizure of numerous electronic devices, represents an early phase of an investigation that has now culminated in arrests more than three years later.
The newly obtained footage captures federal agents conducting the raid at the residence of Gabbie Gonzalez on November 16, 2022. In the video, Gonzalez's then-husband Cody Clayburn can be seen outside the home speaking with FBI agents, who explained the purpose of their presence. Clayburn expressed concern about whether Gonzalez, who remained inside the residence during the operation, was safe.
According to documents obtained from the operation, federal agents seized twelve items during the search. The inventory included a MacBook computer, multiple iPhones, SD cards, and thumb drives. The nature of the seized items indicates investigators were pursuing potential digital evidence that might substantiate allegations in the case.
The search warrant authorizing the operation was signed by a United States magistrate judge in Honolulu. Federal investigators had established probable cause sufficient to justify the search of the property in connection with the alleged murder-for-hire plot.
Cody Clayburn provided a statement regarding the raid, saying, "The FBI searched our home on November 16, 2022, which was the first time I caught light of the whole situation." He further explained that Gonzalez "gave me some diluted version of what happened after they searched our home and took all electronics, and then found bits and pieces more over time." Clayburn stated he did not learn comprehensive details about the allegations until a significantly later date.
Despite the extensive search and seizure operation, sources indicate federal investigators determined they had not gathered sufficient evidence to proceed with arrests at that time. In 2025, the frustrated lead investigator transferred the case to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which assumed responsibility for the ongoing investigation.
The investigation reached a critical juncture last week when Gabbie Gonzalez was arrested in Humboldt County, California, as she attempted to board a flight. She was subsequently transferred on Monday to Los Angeles County jail, where her bail has been established at two million dollars. Her father, Francisco, was arrested Monday in Florida and booked on identical charges.
Following news of the arrests, Cody Clayburn posted to Instagram with a single-word comment: "Karma."
The case illustrates the extended timeline often required in complex federal investigations, particularly those involving allegations of conspiracy and potential digital evidence. The three-year gap between the initial raid and subsequent arrests underscores the methodical nature of building prosecutable cases in murder-for-hire allegations. The transfer from federal to county jurisdiction suggests investigators believed the evidence would support prosecution at the state level despite initial federal involvement.
