Former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is pushing back against efforts by his sexual assault accuser to obtain details about his NFL contract, according to court documents filed this week.
Diggs has asked the presiding judge to deny Christopher Blake Griffith's request for information and documents related to his professional football income. In his filing, Diggs argued that he is not claiming any loss to his NFL income and therefore such financial details are not relevant to the case.
The former Patriots star further stated that it is not his responsibility to address his accuser's dissatisfaction with the information that has been provided thus far, asserting there is no reasonable basis to produce anything further regarding his professional earnings.
The legal dispute stems from allegations made by Christopher Blake Griffith, who claims he attended a basketball game with Diggs in May 2023. According to Griffith, he went to Diggs' home afterward, where he alleges the NFL player drugged and assaulted him. Griffith further claims that Diggs coordinated an assault against him days later.
Diggs has categorically denied the allegations. In court documents, he stated that he went to bed after returning home and did not assault Christopher Blake Griffith.
The judge has not yet ruled on whether Diggs must produce documents related to his NFL contract. The legal battle remains ongoing as both parties continue to present their arguments.
This case represents one of multiple legal challenges Diggs has faced. He was previously found not guilty in an unrelated criminal case in which his ex-chef accused him of assault.
The dispute over financial discovery highlights a common tension in civil litigation, where plaintiffs often seek comprehensive financial information while defendants argue for limiting disclosure to matters directly relevant to the claims at hand. The court's eventual ruling on this motion could significantly impact the scope of evidence available as the case proceeds.
