DDG Calls Watching Love Island Alone 'Gay'

Rapper and content creator DDG ignited controversy during a recent livestream when he characterized watching the reality dating series Love Island without a partner as homosexual behavior, making repeated claims about the viewing habits of single men.

During the stream, DDG discussed aspects of relationships he currently misses following his breakup with singer Halle Bailey. "I haven't watched 'Love Island.' You know why? Cuz I don't have anybody to watch it with," DDG told TMZ.com.

The entertainer then elaborated on his perspective regarding men who consume the program independently. "I think it's gay to watch 'Love Island' by yourself. If you're a n**** and you're watching 'Love Island' solo, you might be bisexual," he stated during the broadcast, according to TMZ.com.

DDG justified his position by characterizing the show's content as sexually suggestive. "That s*** damn-near, like, soft p-o-r-n," he said, adding that watching the cast members engage in romantic interactions constitutes "a little bisexual" behavior for male viewers.

The rapper continued by expressing his desire to complete the current season and attend movie screenings, activities he apparently believes require female companionship to avoid questions about his sexuality. His comments reflect a narrow view of acceptable entertainment consumption for men and reinforce outdated stereotypes about masculinity and sexual orientation.

The remarks come months after DDG's highly publicized separation from Bailey, which involved significant legal proceedings. The former couple engaged in a custody dispute over their 1-year-old, Halo, and filed domestic violence restraining orders against one another. They subsequently reached a custody agreement and mutually dismissed their respective restraining order requests.

The livestream comments have drawn criticism from observers who note that the statements perpetuate harmful stereotypes linking entertainment preferences to sexual orientation. The suggestion that certain viewing habits indicate homosexuality or bisexuality reflects outdated attitudes about gender roles and masculinity that continue to persist in some segments of popular culture.

Love Island, a reality dating competition that features contestants coupling up and navigating romantic relationships in a villa setting, has attracted a diverse viewership since its debut. The program's popularity spans demographics and has become a cultural phenomenon, with fans of all genders and orientations discussing episodes on social media platforms.
