Our community's firefighters worked through the early morning hours Tuesday to contain a brush fire that threatened residential areas in Hamilton Township, Atlantic County.
Emergency crews received the call around 3 a.m. for a brush fire in the area of McCall Avenue and Jackson Road. When first responders arrived on scene, the fire had already consumed approximately three acres and was advancing toward roughly a dozen homes in the vicinity.
Fire crews immediately established a fire line to prevent the blaze from spreading further into residential areas. Despite their efforts to contain it, the fire expanded to about six acres before firefighters could bring it under control.
Officials report that the fire is now contained, though crews remain on scene monitoring hot spots to ensure the blaze doesn't reignite. The quick response from our local fire departments likely prevented what could have been a much more serious situation for nearby homeowners.
As we move deeper into spring and approach the drier summer months, this incident serves as an important reminder for residents to remain vigilant about fire safety and to report any signs of smoke or fire immediately. The professionalism and dedication of our firefighters ensured that no homes were lost and our neighbors remained safe.
