Reality television personality Brittany Cartwright has confirmed that her substantial tax dispute with California authorities has been resolved, bringing closure to a matter that briefly thrust her financial affairs into the public spotlight.
The Valley star addressed the situation Tuesday night at LAX while traveling home for her nephew's high school graduation. Cartwright acknowledged that she was "freaking out" upon first learning that California tax authorities claimed she owed nearly $500,000.
According to Cartwright, the tax issue stemmed from years-old filings tied to 2019. She noted with evident frustration that there was no way she made enough money during that period to justify a tax bill of such magnitude. The discrepancy between her actual earnings and the alleged debt underscored the confusion surrounding the matter.
Despite the initial shock, Cartwright stated that the situation is now "fixed" and no longer a source of concern. However, she made clear her displeasure that the entire ordeal became public knowledge before it could be quietly resolved.
Previous reports indicated that Cartwright's certified public accountant attributed the massive balance to incorrectly reported "phantom income." The CPA insisted that Cartwright had paid all taxes owed during the years he represented her, suggesting the issue arose from reporting errors rather than actual tax evasion.
Now that the matter has been resolved, Cartwright characterized it as "water under the bridge." Despite the stressful nature of the tax scare, she insisted she is doing great and appears ready to move forward from the incident.
The resolution allows Cartwright to focus on personal matters, including the family celebration that brought her through Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday night. Her relief was evident as she discussed putting the tax dispute behind her.
