Brad Pitt is demanding financial disclosure from Angelina Jolie as their legal battle over a French winery continues to escalate, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly on Tuesday, August 4.
During a Friday, July 31, court hearing, attorneys representing Pitt, 62, requested that Jolie, 51, produce documentation showing her income following their 2016 separation. The legal team specifically seeks records covering the years 2017 through 2019.
The financial disclosure request centers on the former couple's dispute over Château Miraval, a French winery they jointly owned from 2008 to 2021. Jolie's legal representatives have already provided earnings documentation for the 2020 to 2021 period, but they maintain that earlier financial records bear no connection to the winery litigation.
According to the court filings, Pitt's attorneys are pursuing a limited scope of information. The documents state they are seeking only profit statements for films that have already generated revenue and from which Jolie is currently receiving payments, rather than requesting comprehensive financial records.
The request stems from previous statements Jolie made during the legal proceedings. She had claimed she sacrificed professional opportunities and lost years of potential income during their relationship. Pitt's legal team contends that reviewing her actual film earnings will provide necessary perspective on her allegations regarding his use of coercion and economic leverage.
Jolie's attorneys have filed a forceful response rejecting the disclosure demand. In their legal filing, they argue that Pitt's team has constructed a false premise to justify the request. The response states that Pitt's argument rests on a fabricated legal theory that Jolie never actually alleged in her court filings.
Her legal team further clarified the distinction in their response, noting that Pitt's attorneys selectively quoted her statements. The filing explains that Jolie's reference to seeking financial independence specifically concerned separating her finances from her ex-husband, not a claim of broader economic hardship. According to the response, there is a categorical difference between ending financial entanglement with a former spouse and experiencing general financial distress.
