Atlantic City Man Sentenced on Unlawful Possession of a Handgun Charge

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says on Friday, May 8, 2026, Michael Wimbish, 42, of Atlantic City, NJ, was sentenced by the Honorable Ralph Paolone, J.S.C. to three and a half years New Jersey State Prison without parole. Wimbish previously pleaded guilty to second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun.

On November 9, 2022, officers of the Galloway Township Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop. Wimbish, who was the driver and registered owner of the vehicle, had an active warrant out of Atlantic City. During the stop, a police canine conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted in which a loaded handgun was located stuffed between the driver’s seat and the center console. The defendant was taken into custody and charged accordingly. Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Larson represented the State in this matter.
