Our region's gateway to the world just received a major boost. Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) will receive $8,777,683 in federal funding through the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Infrastructure Grant program, Congressman Van Drew announced today.
The substantial investment will fund construction of a new 3,800-foot Taxiway R, a critical infrastructure project designed to strengthen airport operations and position ACY for long-term growth. This represents Phase 3 of the airport's ongoing taxiway improvement initiative.
"Atlantic City International Airport is one of the most important economic engines in South Jersey, and this investment is going to help ensure it continues growing and competing for years to come," said Congressman Van Drew. He emphasized that the airport's future remains bright, with additional announcements expected soon regarding expanded air service to replace Spirit Airlines.
The funding will support construction of more than 2,700 feet of grading and drainage infrastructure—essential groundwork that will bring the airport into conformity with current aviation standards. These improvements aren't just about meeting regulatory requirements; they're about enhancing operational safety, efficiency, and creating opportunities for future expansion.
Stephen F. Dougherty, Executive Director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority, expressed gratitude for the federal support. "This funding moves Phase 3 of our Taxiway R improvement project forward and represents a major step toward bringing the airport into conformity with current aviation standards," Dougherty said. "We are grateful for Congressman Van Drew's continued support of transportation infrastructure and economic development in South Jersey."
The announcement comes at a pivotal time for ACY as the airport works to strengthen its position as a competitive regional hub. With ongoing conversations about expanding air service and this significant infrastructure investment, the airport appears poised for a period of sustained growth that will benefit travelers and the broader South Jersey economy alike.
