Joseph Duggar, a 31-year-old Arkansas resident, was arrested Wednesday afternoon by the Tontitown Police Department on charges of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. The arrest followed the execution of a warrant issued by Bay County authorities in Florida, where the alleged incidents occurred.

According to a press release from the Bay County Sheriff's Office, Duggar faces two felony charges: lewd and lascivious behavior involving molestation of a victim less than 12 years old, and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 years or older. The arrest took place at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18.

The investigation began when Bay County investigators received information from a detective with the Tontitown Police Department regarding a report of past sexual abuse. Authorities conducted an interview with the alleged victim, now 14 years old, who reported multiple incidents involving Duggar during a family vacation in Panama City Beach in 2020, when she was 9 years old.

During the interview, the alleged victim described several inappropriate encounters. She stated that Duggar repeatedly requested she sit on his lap and alleged that on one occasion, while seated next to him on a couch under a blanket, he inappropriately touched her. The victim told investigators that Duggar later apologized for his actions and the incidents ceased following that apology.

The case progressed rapidly following a confrontation between Duggar and the alleged victim's father on Tuesday, March 17. According to the press release, Duggar admitted his actions both to the victim's father and subsequently to detectives from the Tontitown Police Department.

Duggar is currently in custody and awaiting extradition to Bay County, Florida, where he will face the charges. The multi-jurisdictional nature of the investigation demonstrates the cooperation between Arkansas and Florida law enforcement agencies in pursuing justice for alleged victims of child abuse.

This case underscores the importance of reporting suspected child abuse to authorities, regardless of when the alleged incidents occurred. Law enforcement officials encourage anyone with information about child exploitation or abuse to contact their local police department or the National Child Abuse Hotline.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may emerge as the case proceeds through the judicial system.
