Actor James Handy Killed in Tarzana Stabbing

A veteran Hollywood character actor with more than 100 film and television credits has died following a fatal stabbing at a Tarzana home, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

James Handy, 81, was discovered Wednesday morning in front of a residence in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood with a stab wound to the chest. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The actor's extensive filmography includes appearances in "Top Gun: Maverick," "Jumanji," and "Arachnophobia."

Police arrested 44-year-old Michael Gledhill at the scene and booked him on suspicion of murder. Authorities report that Gledhill resided at the Tarzana home with his mother, who was in a relationship with Handy. According to law enforcement, Gledhill placed a 911 call prior to officers arriving at the location.

"I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin," Gledhill allegedly told emergency dispatchers, according to TMZ.com. When officers responded to the scene, police say Gledhill flagged them down and acknowledged he was the individual they were seeking.

Gledhill is being held on two million dollars bail. Investigators have not released information regarding a potential motive for the attack.

The loss of Handy represents the end of a prolific five-decade career in the entertainment industry. The character actor built a reputation as a reliable supporting performer, appearing in numerous high-profile productions that spanned multiple generations of audiences. His work ranged from blockbuster action films to beloved family comedies, establishing him as a recognizable presence in Hollywood despite rarely taking leading roles.

The circumstances surrounding his death have shocked the entertainment community, as violent crime claims the life of yet another figure from the film and television industry. The investigation into the fatal stabbing remains active as authorities work to establish the full sequence of events that led to the tragedy in the Tarzana neighborhood.
